How the amount is written in Arabic
- Riyal is masculine and halala feminine: so the numbers 3 to 10 take the opposite gender: ثلاثة ريالات، ثلاث هللات.
- 3 to 10: the noun is plural: خمسة ريالات، عشر هللات.
- 11 to 99: the noun is singular accusative: خمسة عشر ريالًا، خمس وعشرون هللة.
- Round hundreds and thousands: the noun is singular: مائة ريال، ألف ريال، خمسة آلاف ريال.
- 200 and 2,000 right before the noun: the final nun drops: مائتا ريال، ألفا ريال.
Where the amount in words goes
On cheques, receipt vouchers and contracts, and many businesses add it to the invoice under the total too. The English version serves bilingual invoices and contracts.
